Ugly Eggs and Such

We dyed Easter eggs today.  Only a few spills.  Only a few stains.  We nearly have the mess-containment down to a science.  It’s only been 8 years, after all.  Although Ella kind of threw us off.  But just a little.

The Man made his brown/gray/ugly egg.  He makes the ugliest eggs.  Seriously.  He does it on purpose.  To frustrate me.  Because I like the pretty eggs, and that one ugly egg just throws the entire color scheme off.  And that is just frustrating.  I go to great lengths to make sure everything blends.  The brown/gray/ugly egg blends with nothing people.  It’s like the color of playdoh when you mix all the colors up.

And that is another thing that drives me nuts.  In my quest to have the playdoh colors remain in their original state,  I allow my children to use only one color of playdoh at a time.  That way, you see, the colors don’t get mixed up.  You may call me the playdoh nazi.  I know, I am a bit of a control freak.  Is that so wrong?

But back to the Easter.  The other day I tried on my new Easter dress.  I haven’t had a new Easter dress in a L.O.N.G. time.  So this year I got one.  And I tried it on.  It was then that I realized…with only two more shopping days until Easter…that I don’t have the right bra to wear.

The Man suggested I go without.  Fat lotta help he is.

So I had to go to Target — with four kids in tow because it’s spring break — to shop for a bra.  It was going okay until the boys spotted the ruffley see-through mesh crazy panties.  Mm-hmm.  I’ll spare you the details.  I’m sure you can imagine.

So now three pairs of pants, three shirts and three dresses are pressed.  The tiny little gloves and bonnets and patent leather shoes are ready.  The baskets will be filled and we will attend Mass tomorrow through a sugar haze.  Then we will head over to my parents’ home, where we will enjoy an Easter feast and the company of my entire family.

And I will be thankful for everything.  (Except for possibly the ugly egg.)

And I will remember I am blessed well beyond what I deserve.

Happy Easter…

Happy Happy Easter…sounds like fun and yes, I can only imagine how much fun shopping for a bra with your children was…..whoooweeee!!! At least you colored eggs….I don’t do it mainly because I’m the only one that really eats them so the joy is lost I guess.

  2. I have been trying really hard not to complain on my blog. It’s severely cramped my writing style. And so I haven’t posted this, and probably won’t. Among other SERIOUS irritations over the past two days was the fact that I could NOT find my strapless bra to go under my strapless Easter dress this morning for Easter church. Grr. Of course, I had a lovely sweater to wear over it, so I could have worn any bra. Even a strappy one. But my strapless bra happened to be the one I was wearing when I bought the dress and it’s the push up kind. I couldn’t find anything else to um, fill the important parts of the dress out this morning. So I had to get creative. It was beyond frustrating. And then at church the dress kept threatening to fall off at any given moment. So consider yourself lucky to have had two days notice. Sigh.

  3. Just think of what a great memory the ugly egg will make for your kids. They’ll grow up insisting on making ugly eggs too. Sort of like some people do that pickle in the Christmas tree thing.

    I think it’s endearing.

Hope you had a lovely day!

  4. Oh, what a lively few days you’ve had. 🙂 I went and ruined the Easter egg dye but mixing the wrong amounts, so we could ONLY have pastel colored eggs. Oh well. At least Bri doesn’t do an ugly egg… instead he does a JMU egg. 🙂

Bet your kiddos were beautiful. Hope your Easter day was chock full of blessing to remember.

  5. I am also a control freak when it comes to dyeing eggs. I let Madeline dye the hard-boiled eggs but hid the blown eggs (which I want to keep ever year) from her and dyed them myself after she went to bed.

I’m pretty sure Joe thinks I’m crazy. Glad to know I’m not alone. 🙂

  6. I’m an egg color nazi too. My family loves to make “swirl eggs”. They’re so ugly. I hate it. I like pretty pastel eggs, so I refuse to make swirl eggs. Flat out cross my arm refuse. I also won’t attempt purple anymore with food coloring because it just turns out brown and that doesn’t fit either. Thankfully, Big Daddy doesn’t care and the Princess is as OCD as I am, so she’s cool. Littlebit doesn’t care. I think she’d roll in egg dye if we let her. ;o)
